Ray Sangster Memorial Trophy

The magnificent ‘Ray Sangster Memorial Tophy’ – for the best performance of a rider in the Highland Classic Two Day Trial being over 35 years of age competing on the A Route.

In 2024, it was decided to have for the first time, an overall winner of the Highland Classic. This will be the rider with the lowest score, riding the A route. The rider must be over 35 years of age.

This coincided with the passing of founder/member, Ray Sangster who was the person that first approached the Williamson family if it was possible to run some trials on ALVIE ESTATE. That was back in the 1980s and we have been organising events on Alvie Estate ever since. Of course this is achieved by co-operation with Alvie Estate Management team and the Inverness & District MCC Ltd.

Ray Sangster was a trials enthusiast and was an active member of the club in it’s early days, organising many of our early events, especially those around the Aviemore area where he lived at the time. This included an arena type event. He also laid out and competed in many club trials at Alvie.

This year we will have on display, the ‘RAY SANGSTER MEMORIAL TROPHY’ which has being specially made by Richi Foss, an artisan craftsman, based in the Inverness area trading as Foss Fabrication & Welding.

We are appreciative of the Sangster family for commissioning and financing this trophy which will be awarded annually to the winner of the Highland Classic.
